For PERFORMA05, Tamy Ben-Tor will perform Exotica, the Rat and the Liberal.? Using various costumes and prosthetics Ben-Tor will change before the audience into three distinct characters.? Ben-Tor gives each character the chance to say what??™s on her mind, expressing the bias at the center of their points of view. Performed in the intimate setting or Salon94, Ben-Tor??™s provocative and at times funny performance exposes the racist undercurrents hidden within western liberalism.

LAURIE SIMMONS: THE MUSIC OF REGRET

Artist Laurie Simmons will present her first live performance alongside Acts III of her film The Music of Regret, as part of PERFORMA05. Simmons’s directorial debut The Music of Regret is a mini-musical in three acts, which examines the mundane challenges of modern living in three tales of disappointment and regret.

Incorporating cinema, musical theater, puppetry, and dance, the film features key players from Simmons’s oeuvre, including her walking objects, ventriloquist dummies and vintage puppets. Simmons’s characters stage scenes from ‘real life’ – suburban tragedy, speed dating, and Broadway auditions.

The Music of Regret is directed and co-written by Laurie Simmons and Matthew Weinstein.Director of Photography is Ed Lachman (“Far from Heaven”); music by composer Michael Rohatyn; choreography by by Helen Picket, and with dancers from the Ailey Studios.
