*ARTISTS SPACE: Empty Space with Exciting Events
November 16 – December 21

Artists Space joins forces with PERFORMA to present Empty Space with Exciting Events. Artists Space curator, Christian Rattemeyer, has invited guest curators and artists to present individual evenings of performance that will form an extensive series in gallery??™s main space. Guest curators include Rene Morales, Marisa S. Olson, Edwin Ramoran, and Amy Sadao and artists include Ei Arakawa, Vlatka Horvat, Sabrina Gschwandtner, Cat Mazza, Kate Pocrass, and Lee Walton.

Each Wednesday night will feature bands, with performances including Discoteca Flaming Star, Larry Krone, and Millree Hughes. The video Project Space will show continuous historical archive footage of performances at Artists Space from 1973 to the present. Alongside performances and screenings the Project Spaces present individual exhibitions with connections to the subject of live performance, including works by Robert Arndt, Quisqueya Henriquez, and Fatima Hoang.

Project Space Exhibitions
In his first New York show, Vancouver-based artist Robert Arndt will present Lines for the Next Exhibition, a video installation that dramatically and humorously explores performance anxiety. Fatima Hoang presents a tangled heap of monitors and DVD players which blast hit rock tunes in rotation, and feature a young, surfer, art-school dude wildly playing air guitar to classic rock songs in diverse locations, ranging from industrial, to chic or domestic. Under the pseudonym Rockness Monster, Hoang herself is the reigning 2005 US Air Guitar Champion. Quisqueya Henr?quez, from Santo Domingo, will create a new work for Artists Space that underscores the increasing interpenetration of the rural and the urban, the third world and the first. Additional works will be shown for the first time in New York. Henr?quez’s exhibition is curated by Ren?© Morales.
