PABLO HELGUERA

Born in Mexico in 1971, Pablo Helguera completed his studies at the School of Visual Arts, University of Mexico in 1989 and the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Barcelona in 1991, receiving a B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1993. Helguera is a New York-based artist working with installation, sculpture, photography, drawing, and performance. His performances are based on scripted dialogue and lectures, adopting fictional elements and musical forms, which question the cultural, historical and social relationships between reality and fiction. Helguera has exhibited and performed internationally, including Brooklyn Museum, New York; Shedhalle, Zurich; P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; Institute fur Austellung, Bonn; Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum; El Museo del Barrio, New York; Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York; Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago; Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum, Hagen; Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires, and Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
