NICOLAS DUMIT ESTEVEZ

Born in Santiago de los Treinta Caballeros, Dominican Republic in 1967, Nicol??s Dumit Est?©vez received a B.A. from the City University of New York in 1996, studied at the Penland School of Crafts, Penland, North Carolina in 1997, and received an M.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia in 2000. An interdisciplinary artist, Est?©vez works primarily in performance in spaces such as museum lobbies, restaurants, markets, fairs, subway stations, and city streets. Est?©vez sets about his examination of social rituals, prejudices, cultural clich?©s, and professional roles armed with latex gloves, plastic knives, whips, bananas or disposable smocks. He has shown internationally at Kitchener, Ontario; Universidad Aut??noma de M?©xico, Mexico City; ARCO 05, Madrid; and in New York at Franklin Furnace, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, El Museo del Barrio, Longwood Art Gallery and the Queens Museum.
