

Born in Born in Long Island, New York in 1949, Simmons currently lives and works in New York City. She received a B.F.A. Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia in 1971. Since 1973, Laurie Simmons??™s seminal work consisted of photographs of dolls and domestic interiors in miniature tableaus. Simmons creates intense psychological imagery, which continues to question female stereotypes and American clich?©s with humor and charm. Simmons has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland; Sprengel Museum, Hannover; and the Kunstrum Munchen, Munich; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York,; and most recently at Distrito Cu4tro, Madrid, Spain and the Baldwin Gallery in Aspen.
