John Armleder was born in Geneva in 1948 and works between Geneva and New York. Armleder studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Geneva in 1966, where he was involved in the Fluxus movement in the 1960s and 70s. Armleder formed the Groupe Ecart in Geneva (1969) with fellow artists Patrick Lucchini and Claude Rychner, which then became the Galerie Ecart in 1973. Armleder works as a performance artist, sculptor, and painter, and continues to be influenced by the anti-establishment ideals of Fluxus.
