Born 1949 in Missouri, Charles Atlas is a filmmaker and video artist based in New York. Atlas has pioneered collaborative dance and video work and has worked with artists, choreographers and performers, including Marina Abramovic, Leigh Bowery, Michael Clark, Merce Cunningham, Douglas Dunn, and John Kelly. Atlas has had retrospectives at the Sao Paolo Museum and FestRio, Brazil; Galleriet, Copenhagen; and Cinematheque Francaise, Paris. His work has been exhibited internationally including Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Magasin4, Austria; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and in New York at The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Kitchen, and Participant Inc.
