AKIKO ICHIKAWA

New York-based Akiko Ichikawa was born in Sagamihara, Japan, and received her BA with honors from Brown University in 1996 and her MFA from Hunter College in 1999. Her large-scale installations and work for the Internet have brought pictorial illusionism into sculptural environments and vice versa. Her performative work embodies an interest in multiple ways of seeing within a single social space, an uncommon moment within the city’s fluid heterogeneity. Her work has been in exhibitions at Socrates Sculpture Park, Triple Candie, Foxy Production, Andrew Kreps Gallery, and Momenta Art, all in New York; Martin Gropius-Bau, Berlin; and Midway Contemporary Art, St. Paul, Minnesota.

At Artists Space as part of Performance as Cultural Gift and Labor curated by Edwin Ramoran.
