BERNAR VENET

French born Bernar Venet (1941) has had a prolific career as an artist, working in photography, sculpture, painting, choreography, set design, costume design, furniture design, poetry, and as a composer. Venet??™s conceptual work in the 1960s led him to use sound in his work, specifically reading scientific texts and mathematical vocabulary, which he also used in his sculpture and paintings. Among his achievements Venet created the music, choreography, costumes and set designs of Graduation (1966), a ballet which he showed at the Paris Opera in 1988; his musical compositions have been released on CD, and his texts and poetry are published widely. Early exhibitions of his work include the Sao Paulo Biennale (1974), Document VI, Germany (1977), Venice Biennale (1978), and recent ones include the Centre Georges Pompidou (2002) and in 2003 alone he had seventeen solo exhibitions. In 2005 Venet was named Chevalier de la Legion D??™Honneur (France??™s highest accolade).
